Youth flag football, kids triathlon available for summer fun

Clarksville Parks & Recreation has issued its weekly report updating upcoming evebts and activities available to city residents. Sports activities for youth, back-to-school fun, a river rally on the Cumberland are among the offerings listed.

Youth Flag Football League

Register now for the Youth Flag Football League!  Pre-registration for ages 5-17 can be completed online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com or at the Parks & Recreation Main Office, on or before July 19.

Cost is $65 or $60 for participants in the Flag Football Clinics held this summer, and includes a shirt and medal.  Practices are set to begin July 29 and games to start August 24.

Don’t miss the first-ever Wonder Kids Triathlon, presented by Jack in the Box and the City of Clarksville, to be held August 3!  This event is open to boys and girls ages 3-12 and will take place at the New Providence Pool and surrounding property.

Participants will complete three legs of the event, swimming, biking and running.  Courses vary depending on age:

  • 3-5Yrs: 25m Swim, 300yd Bike, 100yd Run
  • 6-8Yrs: 50m Swim, 600yd Bike, 300yd Run
  • 9-12Yrs: 100m Swim, 1mile Bike, 1/2mile Run

All floatation devices must be Coast Guard approved.

Cost is $25 per child.  Pre-registration is required with a limit of 100 participants in this year’s event so register early!  Cost covers t-shirt, medal, swim cap and goodie bag.  Registration can be completed at recpro.cityofclarksville.com, at our Community Centers or Main Office, no later than July 29.

Back to School Splash

School supplies will be distributed to local students at the Back to School Splash, sponsored by Agero, Altra Federal Credit Union and Wal-Mart, on Sunday, August 4 at Bel-Aire Pool, located at 124 Marie Drive.  This event is open to kindergarten through 12th grade students and is limited to the first 300 registered. Participants must register online to receive school supplies at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with The Friends of the Blueway to host the 1st Annual “Rally on the Cumberland” Canoe and Kayak Race and Outdoor Expo on August 24.  Rally on the Cumberland will take place at Liberty Park beginning at 7 a.m. Cost to enter is $10 for ages 13-17 and $20 for those 18 and older. Deadline to enter is August 10.

Rally on the Cumberland will also feature musical entertainment, canoe and kayak demonstration and a boat race for youth ages 8-12 in the Clarksville Marina basin as a part of the Outdoor Expo.  To register, visit www.clarksvilleblueway.blogspot.com.

Riverfest  2013 is coming!

Riverfest-2013_logoClarksville’s favorite annual river celebration event is coming your way! The 26th Annual Riverfest Celebration will be here before you know it!  The 2013 festival is set for September 6 & 7.

This two-day music and arts festival includes a wide variety of food vendors, art exhibits, an area just for kids, and of course multiple stages of live music!  Form up teams and make plans now for your team entry in the always fun-filled Boat Regatta.
