As the sun rays take a turn towards slightly cooler temperatures, there are still some summertime activities to be celebrated. Local organizations are moving ahead to bring their annual fundraising events to fruition. Saturday saw just such activity out at Eastland Green Golf Course as the Alumni Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity held their Annual charity golf tournament fundraiser in support of the Clarksville Humane Society, popularly known as ‘The Waggle.’
The rains of the previous Friday night proved to be no deterrent to the golfing fans dedication and determination to enjoy the game and fulfill their pledge to the cause. Over 84 teams had pre-registered for the event and they showed up ready to tee-off and hit the links. Laughter, good cheer and revelry filled the air and flowed over the entire golf course complex.
Registrants received a gift bag and souvenir T-Shirt at their sign-in. Door prizes were awarded to registering team members. A silent auction was held for autographed sports memorabilia- a football signed by Tennessee Titans Coach Mike Munchak and a Nashville Predators hockey puck signed by Predators player Nick Spaling. Special prizes were on hand for the event’s highlight events, the closest to the hole contest, the longest drive, the punting contest and the hole-in-one contest. The last two competitions were especially hotly contested as the winner would collect either a Rolex Watch or a new Ford Focus respectively.
The Pikes’ Waggle Golf Tournament showcased sponsors support by displaying signs on each hole that proclaimed the proud sponsor’s name or business.
After completing the verdant eighteen-hole course, participants were treated to a free catered meal of pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad and a most delicious tray of brownies. Fraternity members were able to sign a ‘well-wishers’ T-Shirt for fellow PKA brother Scott Beasley and his family in his battle with cancer.
