Austin Peay State University engineering technology professor, Dr. Na (Linda) Zhu, will present the next session of the Provost Lecture Series on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. Dr. Zhu will make her presentation in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. Her lecture topic will be acoustic modeled audio extraction. Dr. Zhu will discuss the underlying principle of several blind source separation and de-noising algorithms, and the extraction results by various methods will be compared. A new acoustic modeled method, Point Source Separation, will be explained, and its extraction results will be numerically demonstrated.
All sessions of the Provost Lecture Series are free and open to the public.
Zhu joined APSU in January 2012, shortly after earning her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University. She received her Bachelor of Science in automobile engineering from Tongji University in Shanghai, China, and her Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University. She won the 2009 Best Student Paper competition at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, and she has had several academic papers published in scholarly journals, such as the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and the Journal of Computational Acoustics.
Sessions of the Provost Lecture Series also can be viewed in real time via online streaming at http://www.ustream.tv/user/APSU_CEDE. Other sessions in the Provost Lecture Series also are planned for the academic year. All sessions are from 3-4:30 p.m. in the MUC, Room 303. The Provost Lecture Series seeks to foster a spirit of intellectual and scholarly inquiry among faculty, staff and students. The program will be used as a platform for APSU faculty members who are recent recipients of provost summer grants, who have been awarded faculty development leaves and who have engaged in recent scholarly inquiry during sabbatical leaves.
