The Clarksville-Montgomery School Board is hoping that winter 2014-15 will be kinder and gentler than last season, when a prolonged wintry blast left students with 10 inclement weather days to make up.

In a meeting on Tuesday, the board strategized on plans that would include more than the three weather days allocated for 2013-14 winter. This year’s plan puts five such days on the calendar, meaning the first five days of bad weather will be built in to the calendar.

If cold and snow or ice close schools for more than five days, day six and seven will be made up on January 2 and January 5, cutting Christmas vacation short by two days. February 16 — President’s Day — could be used for an eighth day if needed.

Should those days be unavailable, an April 10 early release day would become a full day of school plus 30 minutes added to each of eight school days to make up the difference. If more days need to be made up, schools will add 30 minutes a day to 13 school days which would then equal one school day.

Should more than eight days be required, the schools have the option of petitioning the state to be exempt from the make-up days.

The school calendar for 2014-15 is now available at the CMCSS website.
