Clarksville hosts Military Appreciation Picnic Saturday, June 14th

Clarksville Parks and Recreation issued its weekly update of activities and events for the week of  June 8, 2014. Upcoming events include Clarksville’s contribution to Warrior Week activities, and the latest Movies in the Park selection.

The City of Clarksville will once again, proudly in conjunction with  Warrior Week , hosts its Military Appreciation Picnic for Fort Campbell soldiers and their families. The picnic will be held on Saturday, June 14, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Heritage Park, 1241 Peachers Mill Rd. 

Military personnel and their families are invited to participate in activities, win prizes, play on inflatables, partake of picnic food and much more! The picnic is free, but attendees are required to show a military ID for entrance.

 

Movies in the Park features ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’

raidersMovies in the Park, the City’s free, outdoor movie series, continues Saturday, June 14, at Heritage Park, 1241 Peachers Mill Rd., Clarksville. ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ rated PG, and brought to you by the Clarksville Area YMCA, will be shown at approximately 8:30 p.m. (dependent on sunset). 

Activities begin at 7:30 p.m. and include an obstacle course by the YMCA and a giant game of Capture the Flag by Clarksville Parks & Recreation, complete with golden idols.

Admission is free. Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs, as well as your appetite, since food vendors will be on-site. Arrive early to get a good seat and to participate in our pre-movie activities. Sorry, no pets or smoking allowed. Friends of Fort Defiance Gear up for Annual Fundraising Event

Baxter's Btry Canon Fire Demo_Ft. DefianceThe Friends of Fort Defiance is excited to announce the date for this year’s ‘March to the Past’ fundraising event: Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center. 

Live demonstrations of quilting, firing, clothing, and medicine will be sure to give the community a clear depiction of the Civil War era.  Along with these demonstrations, several games and activities for children will take place. 

Be sure to bring your appetite as hot dogs and baked goods will be available for purchase to support Fort Defiance. 

‘March to the Past’ is sponsored by Friends of Fort Defiance, Baxter’s Battery and Porter’s Battery. 

 

New City of Clarksville concert series kicks off June 21

gypsy1The City of Clarksville’s Parks and Recreation Department will introduce a new, outdoor concert series on Saturday, June 21, at Liberty Park, 1188 Cumberland Dr.  

Liberty Live!, the new series, will kick off its season with Gypsy, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. Concerts begin at 6:00 p.m. and continue until 9:00 p.m. Two additional shows are scheduled for the season, including: Tina Brown on July 19, and Chris Robertson on August 16. 

Admission is free and a beer and food vendor will be on-site.
