Indoor Aquatic Center-logoCity of Clarksville Parks & Recreation is excited to announce its Special Needs Night event at the Indoor Aquatic Center. The newly slated event will be held April 27, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The center is located at 1`66 Cunningham Lane.

The event is open to children and adults with mental or physical disabilities and their families. Cost to attend: $#1 per person, including family members who may not be swimming.

This event will allow special needs families to enjoy the pool while getting acquainted with the water or practicing previously learned water safety skills.

Pre-registration is available at recpro.cityofclarksville.com and is encouraged.

Water bucket attack underway!

 

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to host Battleship Canoe at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, on April 13.

Similar to the board game, Battleship®, Battleship Canoe will feature teams of four, seated in a canoe, attempting to sink other teams’ canoes using four buckets of water.  Teams may also have one shield in their boat to fend off water from entering their boat.  Up to five canoes may be in the pool at one time.  Teams will battle in heats and the top two teams will advance.

The event is open to youth ages 10 and up.  Games will take place from 6 to 8 p.m.  Cost to play is $15 per team.

Pre-registration is required and is available at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.  Participants must be registered no later than April 10.

 toddler splash participantThe City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the Toddler Splash at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, on April 3.  Kids ages 1 to 5-years-old can shake those winter blues away with April’s “Flowers and Bugs” theme by enjoying water games, springtime crafts, and a “fishing pond.”

The event is open to children ages 1-5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Cost to attend is $3 per person, including adults.  A parent or adult guardian must accompany toddlers in the water.

This event will allow youngsters to enjoy getting acquainted with the water or practice previously learned water safety skills.

If scheduling conflicts won’t allow you to cannot make this one, there will be another Toddler Splash on May 1.

Battleship Canoe is all about the sinking!

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to host the first-ever edition of Battleship Canoe at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, on February 16.

Similar to the board game, Battleship®, Battleship Canoe will feature teams of four young adults, seated in a canoe, attempting to sink other teams’ canoes using four buckets of water.  Teams may also have one shield in their boat to fend off water from entering their boat.

 

canoe_battleship-lgUp to five canoes may be in the pool at one time. Teams will battle in heats and the top two teams will advance. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of the High School and College divisions.

The event is open to young adults ages 14-18 in the High School Division and 18 and up for the College Division.  Games will take place from 8 to 10 a.m.  Cost to play is $15 per team.

‘Move with the Mayor’ hits Parks & Rec Weekly Report

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation issued its weekly report for December 10, 2012. Holiday activities share the spotlight with sports events and classes. Registration for youth dodgeball is still open. The Parks & Recreation Department is now offering pool party packages for special occasions.

City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillian has included a December “Move with the Mayor’ event, marking the holiday season.

Christmas on the Cumberland & Free Activities:
Come enjoy the popular Christmas on the Cumberland walk-through event now through January 5.  Event hours are 5-10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 5-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Don’t miss this weekend’s free activities taking place from 6-8pm at the McGregor Park Museum:
Friday, December 14 – Snowman Craft
Saturday, December 15 – Performances by Natalie’s Dance Network and Acro Dance Center

 

December Move with the Mayor:
Join the Mayor’s Fitness Council and Mayor Kim McMillan on December 15th at McGregor Park’s Riverwalk to get fit while enjoying the Christmas lights. The walk will begin at the main entrance at 5:30 p.m.

 

Registration  for Youth Dodgeball League:
Registration for the Clarksville Parks & Recreation’s first-ever Youth Dodgeball League will take place November 19 through December 21!  Participants can register at the Parks & Recreation Main office as well as online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com.

This six-week Youth Dodgeball League is open to ages 6 to 17 years and is free to participate.  Games will be played at the Crow Community Center on Friday evenings beginning January 11, with a pre-league meeting held January 4 for all players to go over rules and teams.

Dodgeball is a great way to keep children active while having fun.  Dodgeball promotes teamwork and develops arm strength, speed, flexibility and hand-eye coordination.  Balls are made of soft fabric to prevent injury.

 

Parks & Recreation now offers Pool Party Packages:
The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department now offers Pool Party Packages for those wishing to celebrate at the indoor pool! Pool Party Packages are available during regular operating hours for parties of 10-20 people.  Groups of more than 20 can be booked as a private party.  Reservations must be made in advance through the Parks & Recreation Department.

Pool Party Packages include all of the fun of hosting a party, without the stress of planning and coordinating!  There are three Birthday Party Packages ranging from $100-150.  Each includes two hours of water play equipment usages, food for party-goers, drinks, tables and more.

Along with Birthday Packages, the pool also offers a SCUBA Party Package for up to ten people for $100.  This option includes the amenities of a Birthday Package, but also includes a certified SCUBA instructor who will introduce the group to diving essentials before taking everyone in for the hands-on experience.  Participants must be at least 10-years-old.  Those interested in trying their hand at SCUBA on their own may do so at the monthly Try SCUBA class held at the Indoor Aquatic Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane on the first Saturday of the month.  The next class will be December 1 at 1 p.m.

 

Indoor Aquatic Center to host New Year’s Eve Bash:
Cheers to a splashing new year!  Visit the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence this New Year’s Eve for the 2nd annual New Year’s Eve Splash!  The Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a New Year’s Eve pool party from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31. Party-goers can enjoy music, refreshments and free access to “The Aqua Run” wibit and “The Aqua Climb” climbing wall.  Cost to attend this event is $3.

This event is open to all ages, though minors ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian after 10 p.m.

Come swim with Santa!

This year, Clarksville Parks & Recreation offers a a special holiday treat for kids.   By special arrangements, your child can ‘Swim with Santa’ at the Indoor Aquatic Center!

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the pool, located at 166 Cunningham Lane, from 1 until 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 15 and from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 16.

Families can enjoy refreshments, crafts with Mrs. Claus and swimming! Parents, bring your cameras and capture your child’s special moment with Santa this year. When Santa heads back to the North Pole, feel free to stick around and swim! Cost is $5 and covers admission to the pool.

Clarksville Parks & Recreation reports that due to a leak, the Kiddie Pool at the Indoor Aquatic Center has temporarily closed. Located at 166 Cunningham Lane in North Clarksville, the Kiddie Pool is the only section of the complex affected by this closure.

Swimmers will still be able to utilize the remaining sections of the center.

Aquatic Center offers Great Floating Pumpkin Patch

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has created a special event to help celebrate the Autumn Harvest Season. Parks and Recreation is excited  to host the first-ever Great Floating Pumpkin Patch at the Indoor Aquatic Center on October 13. Kids can pick their pumpkin from the pool as they swim through a floating pumpkin patch.

The event is open to children ages 2-12 from 1 to 4 p.m. and also offers a special time for children ages 2-18 with mental and/or physical disabilities to pick their pumpkin from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Cost to attend is $3 per person.

In addition to the floating pumpkins, kids can also participate in a variety of other activities. Activities include the Harvest Relay in which children race to see who can “harvest” the most vegetables and the Pumpkin Roll where participants race by rolling or swimming pumpkins across the pool.  Prizes and other games will also be available.

Beachaven, Bel-Aire pools remaining open through Labor Day Weekend

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation closed the majority of its public pools for the summer season on August 5. However, Beachaven Pool and Bel-Aire Pool will remain open August 10 through September 3 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, as well Monday, September 3. Current summer pool passes will be honored during the extended hours.

Both pools will be open on Friday evenings from 3 to 6 p.m., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Pool hours on Monday, September 3 will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Just because the summer is coming to a close, doesn’t mean the swimming will. The Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence, currently New Providence Pool, will open its doors Monday, October 1. Opening day will feature activities, prizes and free admission for all patrons.
