TDVA increases assistance resources for veterans outreach events

Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs (TDVA) is partnering with several federal and state partners to ensure Veterans, dependents and surviving family members get access to employment opportunities, educational resources, mental health and substance abuse services, business resources and claims assistance.

United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services as well as public higher education institutions, private higher education institutions and technical schools will participate in upcoming TDVA Outreach Events.  Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security will participate to offer Commercial Driving Certification for qualified Veterans as well as to recruit Veterans for open positions.   Tennessee Department of Correction, Tennessee Bureau of Investigations and Tennessee Department of Military will also recruit veterans.

Veterans will need to present a copy of their DD-214 and any other service related documents to assist with filing claims for federal benefits.

There will be nine TDVA Veteran Outreach Events in 2014 with the first outreach happening in McNairy County. A full list of events can be found here.

WHO:              Representatives from several federal and state departments as well as higher education institutions gather to assist Veterans and their families in Chester, Hardin and McNairy Counties

WHEN:           Friday, March 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (CST)

WHERE:         Selmer Community Center, 230 N. 5th Street, Selmer TN 38375

WHY:              To help Veterans and their dependents to learn more about eligible benefits, employment opportunities, educational resources and more.
