TDOT: Northside weekend bridge repair to reduce I-65 South to 2 lanes

Road-Closure-Icon_03

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will close two lanes of travel on I-65 South on the north side of Nashville this weekend for bridge repair work. The work zone will extend from mile markers 95 to 98, northbound and southbound. The work is scheduled as follows:

• Friday, June 20 at 8:00 p.m. through Monday, June 23 at 6:00 a.m., there will be lane closures on I-65 southbound in order to begin bridge repairs at the Mansker Creek, East Cedar Street, Long Hollow Pike, Rivergate Parkway, and CSX railroad bridges. One lane will remain open from Mansker Creek to Rivergate Parkway.  Two lanes will remain open from Rivergate Parkway to CSX railroad.

The project consists of milling and paving a portion of I-65, as well as bridge deck repairs. Crews will cut out and replace parts of the concrete bridge decks over CSX railroad, Rivergate Parkway, Long Hollow Pike, East Cedar Street and Mansker Creek. Work will also be done to rebuild a portion of the median barrier wall and to repaint parts of the repaired bridges.

The work will require approximately 10 weekend lane closures and occasional weeknight lane closures. Weekend closures will be restricted to one direction at a time, limiting the lane closures to either northbound or southbound lanes of travel. The $4.9 million project is expected to be completed by November 2014.

This operation will likely create significant traffic delays. Overhead and portable message boards will alert motorists to the lane closures. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on-site to assist with traffic. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and avoid the area if possible. TDOT also asks drivers to use caution, reduce speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones across the state.

The scheduled closure is weather dependent.  Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances prevent work from occurring as scheduled, it will be rescheduled.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for their destination.  Drivers should never tweet, text or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
