Special weather statement calls for heavy rain

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement  effective through 7 p.m. tonight.

Locally heavy rainfall is possible through this evening. Numerous thunderstorms  and showers are expected to spread into Middle Tennessee this morning with additional storms developing and continuing into Sunday night. A few storms may be strong and produce frequent lightning and gusty winds.

Rainfall amounting o 1-2 inches, with locally higher amounts of 3-4 inches, will be possible today and tonight.

The best chance for heavy rainfall is along and north of I-40.
