Severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening across Middle Tennessee with a preliminary torcon index of six.
The potential exists for the development of strong to severe storms with the primary threats of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The timeframe for these storms is narrowed to a period from noon to 8 p.m.
Initial rainfall will begin this evening into early Saturday and end around 10 a.m. Saturday, when the main area of storms takes shape and severe weather moves in. The atmosphere then becomes very unstable with all the hallmarks for storm potential: severe thunderstorms, winds, hail, small tornadoes and the possible of a strong tornado or two.
A lot of uncertainty exists as to how extensive storm coverage will be and exactly where the most severe weather will develop.
