NASHVILLE – Rep. Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville) announces his appointment by House of Representatives Speaker Beth Harwell to serve on the new Education Instruction & Programs, Insurance and Banking, and Ethics Committees in the 109th General Assembly.

“I am grateful for the appointments to these key committees in the House of Representatives. “Education and jobs continue to be among my priorities and these appointments will help sharpen that focus for our next term. “In a community with an outstanding school system like Clarksville-Montgomery County, I am excited to use our local success to help other districts across our state improve their public education systems for all students. “Education is the key to economic success for Tennesseans and their families,,” said Pitts.”

Pitts will also serve on the Education Instruction & Programs Sub-committee. Sub-committees are designed, through in depth study, to review and improve legislation before it moves to the full committee.

The Legislature has recessed until February 2nd to allow new members and staff to settle into their new offices.

In a separate press release, Pitts state that on February 2nd, the legislature will reconvene for an extraordinary “special session” called for by the Governor to address his TennCare expansion proposal called Insure Tennessee.

“During special session we are only allowed to hear testimony and vote on this one issue”, Pitts said. “We expect the special session to last approximately one week and it is anticipated that we will return to regular session on February 9, 2015. “It is an honor to serve my hometown of Clarksville and the citizens of House District 67 in the Tennessee General Assembly,” Pitts said.
