Mother arraigned in child murder case

A Clarksville mother has been charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of her seven month old daughter, Astrid, early Friday morning.

Stefany Paige Johnson, 24, has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail, according to police spokesperson Natalie Hall.

According to reports, police entered Johnson’s home at 1311 Sonja Drive at 3:40 a.m. Friday morning after receiving reports of woman screaming. Johnson told police “Jesus came down” and took her baby to heaven  while she was bathing the child.

Johnson was reportedly uncooperative and belligerent when police found her and the body of her baby, which was on the couch. The was no indication of any medical care for the child. Johnson was the sole child care provider in the household.

Reports indicate the woman’s husband is serving in Afghanistan.
