Break our the hats, scarves and mittens! Today’s dusting of snow is just the prelude to a weekend of frigid temperatures and more snow on Sunday.

A cold front crossing the state today will be ushered in by northwest winds of 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.

The cold will remain entrenched in Middle Tennessee before rain moves into the region on Sunday morning. That rain is likely to turn to snow Sunday afternoon with 1/2 to one inch of snow forecast by the National Weather Service.

Along with the snow, extremely cold air will cover the midstate region on Monday and Tuesday, with lows in the single digits and highs only reaching the teens and low 20s. Wind chills should be well below zero.
