A Fort Campbell soldier was killed on Monday in a traffic accident on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

According to police reports,  a 1993 Ford Ranger driven by Jonathan Hodge turned left onto Lafayette Road and collided with a south bound 2005 Yamaha YZFR1 driven by Lefrederick Gray on Fort Campbell Boulevard at 6:56 p.m.

Gray, an E-4 active duty soldier, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Gateway Hospital. His family was notified after his chain of command contacted Military Chaplains on Post.

By all accounts,  Gray had been traveling at a very high rate of speed when he entered the intersection. He did have a DOT approved helmet, but it appears that it was not strapped on correctly. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and police are awaiting toxicology from both drivers.

There are no charges and there is no further information at this time.
