According to police reports, an officer was called to the scene of a crash on North Second Street where the driver, C, exhibited slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. Botwe denied driving the car but a passenger identified her as the driver. She refused field sobriety and breathalyzer tests and was arrested on DUI and implied consent charges.
Botwe was placed in the police cruiser while the officer spoke with her passenger, who was detained for further questioning regarding his possession of a concealed weapon (a gun).
As the officer searched Botwe’s purse, the woman climbed through the partitioned window and absconded with the cruiser. Clarksville police chased her up Providence Boulevard and over several streets until she finally hit a utility pole support at Fort Campbell Boulevard and Park Lane and took off running down Park Lane.
Helen Botwe, 28, of 1017 Stafford St. address, also faces charges of evading arrest, reckless endangerment, auto theft, escape and criminal impersonation. She is being held at Montgomery County Jail on a $58,000 bond.
