The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Traveling Exhibit, “The Wall That Heals” will make a stop in Nashville at the Bicentennial Mall State Park on Thursday at 1 p.m. “The Wall” is a half-scale recreation of the The Wall on The Mall in Washington D.C..
Sen. Mark Green and members of motorcycle clubs provided an escort for the trailer. Bob Dobek and his wife, Brenda, are driving the scaled down wall cross country and have visited 116 sites in five years. Custom cut panels on the truck raise up to display picures, letters, maps and other mementos that people have left at the real wall in D.C. The trailer is customized with cut panels on each side that raise up, with pictures, maps, letters and some mementos that people have left at the real wall in Washington.
“It’s exciting to see where we will go next,” Dobek said.
Green hopes to collect pictures of 724 of the 1,295 Tennesseans whose names are engraved on the wall. He noted that returning soldiers from the Vietnam conflict often did not receive the kind of heroes welcome that our current soldiers in conflict do.
