Mayor Kim McMillan invites everyone to pause to remember the American military personnel who were killed during the unprovoked attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the attack, 2,390 Americans were killed and another 1,178 were wounded.

“The attack at Pearl Harbor changed our nation forever. We must always remember that it changed thousands of lives as well. “The brave men and women who lost their lives that day are heroes and we pause to remember and honor their service and devotion. To the families and friends they left behind, we thank you for their service and for your sacrifice,” said Mayor Kim McMillan.

The United States Congress, by Public Law 103 308, as amended, has designated December 7 of each year as “National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” to recognize and honor the brave heroes who died and demonstrate deep gratitude and admiration for their sacrifice. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has declared December 7, 2013 as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
