Registration open for Riverfest Regatta

The popular Riverfest Regatta will be held September 6 as part of the annual Riverfest festival.

Registrations are now being accepted  for teams of up to eight people and or individual entries.

The regatta is a bit different than your traditional race; for this race participants will be sailing boats fabricated of cardboard, plastic bottle and other select items from the approved materials list.

Trophies will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams in each division. Competition will be spread over  in four divisions: Adult Open, Business and Industry, Church/Civic, and City Department.

Prior to the race, boats will also be judged for the following awards:

  • Titanic Award – best sinking of a boat
  • Ship Shape Award – best boat design
  • Cardboard Queen Award – prettiest boat
  • Team Attire Award – most creative costumes
  • Team Unity Award – most spirited and organized team.

Visit  for more information and to register online. All entries must be received no later than September 3. The race is, of course, open to the public and has become a favorite event of the festival. Watch as competitors attempt to paddle their way to the finish line at the McGregor Park boat ramp on the Cumberland River at 11 a.m.
