Recycled Fashion returns to Riverfest 2014


Riverfest 2014 will once again host the Recycled Fashion Show sponsored by Bi-County Waste Management at McGregor Park in Clarksville on September 5-6. The show is slated for September 6 at 4 p.m. in the Adventure Zone.

Open to youth and adults, the contestants construct fashions made entirely from recyclable materials . Cash prizes are offered to the winning entries in two age categories, youth ages 17 and under and adult ages 18 and up.

Fashions are judged on creativity, use of materials, and overall look. First, second, and third place will be awarded to each age group.

riverfestContestants must use only recycled materials  including cardboard, steel/tin, recycled fabric or clothing, aluminum, plastics, paper cartons, chipboard, newspaper, mixed papers (magazines, junk mail, and catalogs), paper bags, and glass. New items may be used in small amounts (i.e.tape, glue, small embellishments). Recycled clothing or fabric may be used, but must be altered so as not to be worn in its original state. Footwear, jewelry, purses, and other accessories may be used to enhance the overall costume but model must be able to safely walk across stage and up and down stairs. In any case, safe shoes must be worn whether they are recycled or street shoes.

Judging will be based on use of materials, creativity, and overall look.

Registration must be made by September 4 by mail or in person at the Parks and Recreation office on Public Square. No fee is required to register.

Only one overall winner will be named, but cash prizes will be awarded ineach age group. Prizes are 1st place $75,  second place $50, and third place $25.
