The Community School of the Arts at Austin Peay State University is gearing up for another busy season of classes and programs for local residents, and this year’s schedule will include some exciting new opportunities for those interested in dance and creative writing.
This fall, the CSA is expanding its roster in those areas by working closely with faculty members in those departments at APSU. During the summer, the APSU dance faculty helped develop courses for children and adults that incorporate all styles of dance. The CSA will now offer two levels of basic dance for children ages 5-10, ballet for ages 8 and up, a Parent and Me course for ages 3-5 and two dance courses for adults.
APSU dance faculty and students will teach all dance courses. These courses, which are open to the public, are typically 12 weeks in length and begin the first week of September. Enrollment at APSU is not a requirement to participate.
This fall, the CSA will also offer a creative writing course for adults and a creative writing course for teens. Quincy Rhoads, local writer and APSU adjunct English instructor, will teach each course, giving teens and adults the tools to expand their writing skills. These courses will help participants put his or her best ideas down on paper. The course for teens is 12 weeks and begins the first week of September. The course for adults is eight weeks and will meet on Saturdays, starting at the end of September. Enrollment at APSU is not a requirement.
Registration and course information is available at the CSA website, www.apsu.edu/csa or by calling 931-221-7508.
