Experience Casablanca as never before when the Nashville Symphony Orchestra performs the score live, bringing a new dimension to this classic film. This magical pairing happens on October 10 at 7 p.m. in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
For the uninitiated, the film is set in World War II Casablanca, where Rick Blaine, exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular nightspot in town. The cynical lone wolf Blaine comes into the possession of two valuable letters of transit. When Nazi Major Strasser arrives in Casablanca, Captain Renault does what he can to please him, including detaining a Czechoslovak underground leader Victor Laszlo. Much to Rick’s surprise, Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick’s one time love. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit. But even the best of plans are subject to change…
Humphrey Bogart plays as Rick, with the beautiful Ingrid Bergman as his love, Ilsa. Paul Heinreid is the elusive Victor Lazlo. The film also includes Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre, to name just a few of the stars from yesterday.
To watch Casablanca is to step back to a time when loves comes second to wartime and national security
Whether you’re a film fanatic, or you’re looking for the perfect date night, this screening of Casablanca will leave you just as breathless as the first time you saw it. Here’s looking at you, kid!
