The opening reception for “Inner Moment” by Laura Blair will be 5-8 p.m. on March 5 at the Downtown Artists Co-op.”Inner Moment” represents a recent collection of complete abstraction including hard-edge cubism and lyrical expressionism.

“I want to engage the viewer into an imaginative world, and rather than interfering with nature, create a profound abstract composition. The Dramatic affects that color has on people inspires me to use them in my paintings as a means of evoking emotion through each stroke. It is not the form that dictates the color, but the color that brings out the form.”

Laura Blair graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Studio Art, concentration in Painting, and a minor in Art History. After painting throughout childhood using primarily watercolor, Laura Blair took her first class in oil painting at the University, where she later excelled in building and creating large-scale oil paintings. She also studied Interior Design while at Alabama, and has since used that knowledge to influence her paintings, specifically commissioned work.

Fellow artists and previous professors have described her work as abstract, expressionist, cubist, saturated and dramatic. She first exhibited her paintings at the Capstone student show in 2009 and 2010, and two years later she had her first dual show with one other artist at the Harrison Galleries in Tuscaloosa Alabama. She was a member of the Tennessee Art League in 2013 while also showing her work at The “O” Gallery in Nashville.

More recently, she has joined the Downtown Artist Co-Op where she exhibits much of her work. Laura Blair’s background in painting, drawing, color theory, lighting, and design make her a unique artist that understands how to create bold artwork that not only complement a space but engage the viewer.
