Join Clarksville Parks and Recreation this Saturday, August 31, at Liberty Park for this week’s Movies in the Park event, featuring the epic historical romance film, Gone with the Wind, adapted from Margaret Mitchell’s Pulitzer-winning 1936 novel.
Gone with the Wind is the legendary story of fiesty Scarlett O’Hara and the dashing Rhett Butler, and is an epic film of the south during the Civil War era. Scarlett is headstrong and has her eyes set on gentle Ashley Wilkes as her husband of choice. Ashley, though, proposes to the equally gentle Melanie, who sees only good in the people she loves.
Though it seems tame today, in 1939, movie-goes were shocked by Rhett Butler’s final line: “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn!”
All movies begin at dusk, with pre-show activities, “Move before the Movies,” taking place an hour prior. This week’s “Move before the Movies” will begin at 6:15 p.m. and features a 45 minute, free yoga class. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to bring their own yoga mats.
As always, you are welcome to bring your picnic basket, but concessions will also be available. Be sure to bring your blankets and lawn chairs. Sorry, no pets allowed.
