APSU starts visual conversation with new photo sites

When freshman Morgan Haynes arrived at Austin Peay State University from Soddy Daisy last week, she paused in front of her residence hall to look at the campus surrounding her.

“I love it,” she said. “I think it’s really beautiful.”

Beth Liggett, APSU university photographer, agrees with Haynes, and she recently developed the Austin Peay Photos project to share the beauty of campus and campus life with students, alumni, families and other members of the University community.

The project consists of a photo blog, “cAPture,” at www.austinpeayphotos.tumblr.com; an Instagram account, www.instagram.com/austinpeayphotos; a Facebook page, www.facebook.com/austinpeayphotos and a twitter account, www.twitter.com/peaypix.

The Austin Peay Photos project is meant to provide a visual voice to the University and to facilitate a continual visual conversation with anyone who might be interested in APSU. Liggett, along with a team of student interns and the occasional guest poster, will work to visually capture slices of campus life that tell the Austin Peay story.

“Viewers will see a little bit of everything — from news and events, to our beautiful and scenic campus, to everyday student activities,” Liggett said. “Anyone connected with the university is encouraged to share their own unique perspectives.”

They can do that by sharing their photos of APSU online and tagging them with the hash tag #PeayPix. Austin Peay Photos will repost the best #PeayPix submissions.

The first day of fall semester, Aug. 26, also marked the beginning of APSU 365, a year in the life of the University, one photo at a time. The APSU 365 project is dedicated to showing a real and accurate overall picture of Austin Peay by photographing ordinary, everyday activities on campus in unique and artful ways.
