In Davenport, Iowa, a stunning, glass-walled building stands along the banks of the Mississippi River. This 114,000-square-foot facility houses the Figge Art Museum – one of the oldest art institutions in the country – and it attracts crowds of art lovers from across the globe.

Dr. Tony Morris, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of art history, will deliver a lecture, “Grant Wood and Stuart Davis: Rival Modernisms in America, 1913-1942,” at the famed museum on July 31.. Morris was invited to speak as part of the museum’s newest exhibition – “Two Americans in Paris: Stuart Davis and Grant Wood.” The exhibit focuses on the experiences and careers of two prominent American artists who studied in Paris in the 1920s.

Morris earned his doctoral degree in art history from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2012, his article “Paul Cadmus and Carnival, 1934: Representing the Comic Grotesque” was published in American Art magazine.
