Clarksville and all of north middle Tennessee are bracing for the kind of snowfall that many locals say “we just don’t have anymore” or “we haven’t had in years.” With the National Weather Service calling for some icing but a predominantly “snow event” with as much as 5-8 inches expected to coat greater Clarksville before the storms wraps up on Saturday, being prepared is essential.
Forecasters predicted the storm when it was barely a blip on the weather radar, and that early forecast is materializing. The storm has been slow to develop, and slow to move from the Texas Panhandle to the midwest, with a timeline for Tennesse that has been pushed back to a Friday start. One look at the weather maps, though, and it is quickly apparent that once it starts, it will be here for a while. At least 24 hours. The latest ( p.m. today) forecast calls for up to four inches of snow and some icing during the day Friday, with the possibility otwo to four more inches of snow Friday night night into early Saturday.
The snow will be accompanied by blustery winds, plummeting temperatures, significant wind chills, and drifting snow.
Motorists are advised to use caution, since roads will become snow-covered, icy and slippery. Bridges, officials warn, are the first part of the roadway to freeze. Significant icing can also toppe tree limbs and branches and may trigger power outages.
Residents are advised to monitor weather alerts as the storm continues to develop and target Tennessee.
