Northeast High School’s choirs, now deep in their Christmas Concert tour schedule, are teaming up with the school’s orchestra in  “A Winter Concert” to be presented in the NEHS auditorium Thursday, December 3 at 6 p.m.

Family and friends were treated to a preview of this show Tuesday night when the Freshman Honors Choir, SSA, Concert and Exit One Choirs — dressed in full choir concert regalia (gowns for the young ladies, tuxedos on the young men) performed a program of holiday secular and Christian music.

Musical selections included Sing for Joy, In December, O Holy Night, White Christmas, Hanukkah Song, Winter Wonderland, Joy, The Christmas Song, and  high-spirited variations on Jingle Bells.

Miss Wilson takes particular pride in the combined Concert and Exit One singers as they perform Hallelujah! from Handel’s Messiah.

These two in-school concerts come in the midst of a ‘touring’ week in which the choir is performing dozens of shows at various venues around the area, including many nursing homes and assisted living facilities. In addition, they will present a pre-Christmas Parade concert on the steps of the County Courthouse Dec. 5 at 5 p.m., and a  Dec. 6 performance at the Smith-Trahern Mansion on McClure Street at 2 p.m.

The choirs resume an intensive practice schedule in January in preparation for their annual Spring show in March and competitions in April. Additional performances to be announced.

Choir Director Debbie Wilson and accompanist Lacy Wilson provided musical accompaniment. A nominal admission will be charged for the Thursday performance.
